Two years after its debut in the US, it’s *finally* exclusively available to shop at Space NK, delighting beauty-loving Brits everywhere. Naturally, we had to see if Miss Gomez’s brand lives up to the TikTok hype. Here’s everything we’re using and loving from the Selena-approved collection. Bring on the pigment!

Charlotte’s Review

Consider me OBSESSED. I’ve been using Rare Beauty for a couple of months now and it honestly might be my new fave brand- so many of the products are now part of my daily routine! My number one pick has to be the Warm Wishes Effortless Contour Stick in the shade Happy Sol. I’ve never been one that’s super confident with contour as I’m usually as pale as anything but this shade is perfect for me, and despite how pigmented it is when first applied to the skin it blends so seamlessly thanks to the ultra-creamy formula. A real joy to use!

I’d been seeing so many cream blush products on my TikTok FYP and had been super eager to try some, and let’s just say I’m a total convert from powder products! I’ve been loving the shade Hope which again is really pigmented and a little goes a super long way but gives the prettiest finish. I’ve then been finishing my base off with a few dabs of the Positive Light Liquid Luminizer in the shade Transcend and I truly don’t think my skin has ever been so glowy in a way that actually looks quite natural. This combo of products are simply chef’s kiss!

Other notable mentions go to the two lip products I’ve been reaching for most- the Stay Vulnerable Glossy Lip Balm in Nearly Neutral for day-to-day wear and the Lip Soufflé Matte Lip Cream in the shade Inspire for the evenings- it’s a very Taylor Swift shade of red which obviously makes me love it even more.

Selena, you’re a genius.

Lareese’s Review

The stand-out product for me had to be the Matte Souffle Lip Cream. This took me by surprise because I’m not usually one to get excited by lipstick or lipgloss, it’s the last thing I’d gravitate towards in a collection like this as I’m such a sucker for a good base, but I LOVED this air-whipped formula. It glides on like silk for a just-bitten finish that dries like a lip stain. Unlike other matte products that often flake throughout the day, this felt hydrating and comfortable on the lips. I also didn’t realise how much of a simp I am for a chunky doe foot applicator. Using this product is an experience and my life (and my non-existent cupid’s bow) is all the richer for it.

TikTok was telling the truth about the liquid blush, it’s not just hearsay. You really only need a dot as a little bit goes a long way but once you get it right, the colour payoff is real. Go in with a light hand for a gorgeous healthy flush of colour but rest assured, if you do overdo it, you can easily blend it out with your foundation brush. For £19 it might seem steep for a blush but the colour pigment is seriously long-wearing – a tube will last you all the way to the next platty joobs. I’d love to try the pinker shade (Hope) as my pale skin can easily give ‘clownfish’ with a coral-like this (I used the shade Joy) but like I said, it’s actually super wearable and easy to blend out.

Moving onto base! The pore diffusing primer does exactly what it says on the bottle, mattifying and blurring the appearance of fine lines and pores. The gel formula goes on like a dream, evening out skin texture and creating a smooth canvas ready for your foundation. My only gripe with this product is that it’s not glowy enough for me. If I wanted to wear this alone without makeup, I’d like it to give a healthy dose of radiance to make my skin look dewy and hydrated sans makeup, but for anyone using solely as a primer for makeup, it’s a solid product that fights shine and ensures your base goes on seamlessly and lasts all day.

The cream bronzer stick is another highlight from the Rare Beauty collection. Creamy, easy to blend and non-greasy, it provides a natural sun-kissed glow that feels weightless on the skin. As someone with aggressively hooded eyes, I can also vouch for the smudge-proof Perfect Strokes Matte Liquid Eyeliner. The pen is great for anyone scared of eyeliner flicks as the continuous flow tip makes for easy application. If mascara clumps are your nemesis, you’ll love the mascara from this collection, too. I’m a little weirdo who prefers a new mascara after it’s dried out a bit so it’s not quite as wet on application but there’s no need to wait for the best part with this one as it’s ready to roll, conditioning your lashes, lengthening and volumizing but never weighing the lashes down with product. Right up my street! I’m always pretty dubious about celebrity makeup, there are so many to choose from these days, each with their own fair share of TikTok hype but I’m pleased to report Rare Beauty exceeded my expectations, particularly for those who prefer the ‘my skin but better’ approach to makeup. For fresh girl skin with a lit from within glow, look no further than Gomez.

Danielle’s Review

I’ve heard a lot about Rare Beauty, especially the contour stick and blush and I have to say they did not disappoint. The primer is lovely, but always trickier to know how much this is affecting my routine but it went on super smoothly under my base and didn’t upset my makeup for the rest of the day.

I popped on my usual base and went straight in with the Effortless Bronzer in shade Happy Sol which blended in SO easily with a beauty blender, the shade was great but what I loved most is the speed at which that step was done. Usually, I spend a lot more time with fiddly products and blending. Over top, I applied the Liquid Blush in shade Joy which is a beautiful orangey toned blush, and I was just as impressed! A little goes a long way so I’ve learnt to use it sparingly as I don’t identify as a hardcore blush gal, but the colour and texture it gives you is amazing, and once again it was so speedy.

I also gave the Perfect Strokes Universal Volumizing Mascara a whirl and thought it was fantastic. Extremely buildable with an easy application. I usually use two mascaras to get both thickness and length, but for a light face of makeup for the office, this was perfect on its own, highly recommend it.

My favourite product has to be the Positive Light Liquid Luminizer which I popped on the pads/base of my thumbs and lightly pat into my cheekbones. This gave the most beautiful glow and once again was so easy to blend without suddenly disrupting everything underneath it. Powder highlight has started to give me a bit too much texture and this liquid luminizer is perfect for giving a great glow, especially in these summer months!

Maddie’s Review

I’ll be really honest, usually, a celebrity makeup range wouldn’t be something I get that excited about or immediately gravitate towards. Being by Selena Gomez (as lovely as she is!) I assumed this range would be targeting a much younger audience than someone in their mid-30s. That couldn’t be further from the truth and I was very pleasantly surprised by not only the look but more importantly the quality of these products. No wonder Space NK has just snapped it up!

Now let’s get to the products. First things first, the primer is divine. So smooth, it glides on a dream and has gone straight to the top of my must-have primers, a definite repurchase product. I have been a cream blush girl for a while now as I have really dry skin, especially in the summer, so these have been lovely to try out. The nudey pink shade ‘Hope’ is very up my street and a little really does go a very long way. I am not a big highlighter girl typically but the liquid luminizer in the shade ‘Mesmerize’ is such a gorgeous product for summer. Super natural it blends into the skin adding more of a glow than a tin man effect IYKWIM. I honestly loved all the products I tried but the last one I wanted to mention was the setting spray.

Ever since doing my own wedding makeup, I have become a little obsessed with the stuff as it genuinely does work. The Rare Beauty spray is a 4 in 1 product that you can use under and over makeup as it contains skincare ingredients such as niacinamide and sodium hyaluronate which leave your skin hydrated and smoother. So far it’s been great at keeping my makeup in place and leaves skin feeling refreshed and dewy.

To summarise, my initial assumptions about what these products would be like were totally wrong. This is a real deal makeup range that needs to be taken seriously.

Darcey’s Review

I don’t usually go for celebrity makeup brands, but I was definitely converted when Rihanna brought out Fenty Beauty so I was excited to give Rare Beauty a go after seeing SO many people raving about it on TikTok.

I tried out the products for my everyday makeup look as honestly, I don’t go out that often anymore and get properly dolled up, so it felt more natural to give it a go for a day in the office. The primer was bloody delightful, it applied so smoothly and wasn’t tacky at all which I hate in a lot of other primers I’ve tried. My pores disappeared instantly too which was rather magical to watch, I was really impressed! Next up I gave the contour stick in shade Happy Sol a go which I know all the other girls are raving about too, it blends so effortlessly and it worked well on me with paler skin too. I usually use a cream bronzer so I was used to the texture, but I was still shocked at how easily it blended, much easier than other cream bronzers I’ve tried.

Now to my favourite product, the cream blush!! I loved the shade Hope, but Joy was equally as nice too but more of a coral pink which I didn’t think matched my skin tone as well. The cream blush blended so well like the contour stick and you need the teeniest tiniest bit of product as it’s super pigmented. I love cream-based makeup for Summer especially as I find it gives a much nicer glow than powder and works better with sweat, so these products are perfect!

Olivia’s Review

My make-up base has never been better! Over the last couple of years, my skin has changed quite a lot and I have struggled to find a make-up base that works for me. Rare beauty might be the answer to all my prayers!

Let’s start with the primer, I have really enjoyed using this product! It flattens my complexion and gives me a great base for my foundation. I’ve also found that it has really helped with my concealer creasing around my eyes so win-win!

I’ve never been one to contour, not from lack of knowledge but lack of skill, but this bronzer stick was the tool I was missing. Its silky formula blends so smoothly onto my skin and it looks incredibly natural. This will definitely be a repeat purchase from me.

Moving on to the highlighter (wow), this product sits perfectly on top of foundation and doesn’t displace my make-up when I blend it in and gives me the perfect glow.

Both the lip and blush products are super pigmented and blend out really nicely (there’s a theme here). My only tiny piece of feedback would be that a lot of product comes out on the applicators so if you’re going for a more subtle look wipe off a little bit of the product before applying!

Is Your Vagina Stressed? Here Are the Tell-Tale Signs You Need to Look Out For

Here’s what your yoni is trying to tell you…

In Tantric teachings, our yoni – the Sanskrit word for vagina – is seen as the sacred symbol of the divine feminine and our juices are thought to have healing powers. The yoni is considered the cornerstone of creativity and the internal compass between our thighs, but in this digitally distracted world, we’ve lost touch with our intimate feminine intuition and the power it wields in our daily lives.

The link between our mental and physical health is well-known and the effects of stress on the body can be far-reaching, presenting in many different ways including insomnia, migraines, chronic pain, chest pain and inflammation. But have you ever considered how stress could be messing with your vagina’s inner peace?

We spoke to Pelvic Health Expert and Managing Director of Kegel8, Stephanie Taylor, to find out how stress can impact our vaginal health and what tell-tale signs to look out for.

Here’s what your yoni is trying to tell you…

Vaginal dryness (atrophy)

Chronic stress (stress that stays with you for longer than it should) can reduce the amount of moisture in your vagina.

When you experience stress, your adrenal glands make and release the hormone cortisol. This hormone works to increase your heart rate and blood pressure to allow your body to react to stressful circumstances.

However, when you constantly experience high stress levels, this excess cortisol can cause several health concerns, including vaginal dryness.

Vaginal dryness (also known as atrophy) can cause a sore or itchy sensation around your vagina and pain and discomfort during sex, which, in turn, can stop you from reaching orgasm or put you off sex completely.

How to tackle it:

Pay attention to what you’re drinking, as alcohol and caffeine can exacerbate the problem. If you aren’t properly hydrated, you’re likely to see signs around your vagina. Aim to drink at least two litres of water a day.

Consider using a water-based lubricant during your intimate time. Alternatively, a vaginal moisturiser can help alleviate itching or pain and keep skin nourished.

For a longer-term solution, you can also use a topical oestrogen cream (prescribed by your GP) and take special supplements for vaginal atrophy rich in Vitamin D3, Vitamin C, Beta Carotene (provitamin A) and Power Dophilus.

Low libido

Libido (your sex drive) is sensitive, and when influenced by biological, psychological, and social factors, such as stress, you can lose it.

When under pressure, your testosterone levels dip as stress-related hormone levels like cortisol, adrenaline and norepinephrine rise. And as testosterone is also a big driver behind getting turned on, the influence of chronic stress can cause your sexual urges to drop or disappear.

How to tackle it:

Testosterone can manage low libido in men – with good results. While there is some evidence that testosterone can boost sexual appetite in women, there isn’t enough data to say that it is an effective long-term solution.

However, making simple lifestyle changes, including getting more sleep, maintaining a healthy diet, exercising regularly, and giving up smoking, can help boost your libido. While these are beneficial for your sexual wellbeing – it may take some time to notice changes.

For more immediate results, some natural remedies, including maca, ginseng and fenugreek, have shown to be beneficial in boosting libido. Alternatively, consider testing out a new lubricant or masturbating to help arousal.

Increased infection

There are millions of bacteria living inside your vagina. While this may sound scary, it works to protect you from infection.

The vaginal microbiome (the collective term for this bacteria) is extremely sensitive, and if the balance of bacteria is disturbed, this can lead to infection and inflammation.

The most prominent bacteria in your vagina, called lactobacilli, ensure that your vagina’s pH balance stays at a normal level (usually less than pH 4.5), preventing the growth of other organisms.

One study found that an increase in cortisol (the stress hormone) affects glycogen levels in the vagina and harms the production of lactobacilli. Without the good bacteria acting as a defence, your body is more susceptible to infections.

Meanwhile, another study found that stress and anxiety can result in inflammation and a weakened response to fighting infections, including in your vagina. – which puts you at a higher risk of contracting bacterial infections and thrush.

One of the tell-tale signs of an infection is a change in appearance, smell, and discharge texture. A fishy smell may indicate bacterial vaginosis, while thick, white discharge is a symptom of thrush. It’s important to not self-diagnose and visit your GP to discuss your concerns.

Healthy vaginal discharge doesn’t have a pungent odour; it should be clear or milky fluid or mucus that actually keeps your vagina clean and moist to protect it from infection.

How to tackle it:

Bacterial vaginosis, or thrush, can be treated with over-the-counter remedies, but unfortunately, if your stress levels remain high, you may experience recurring infections.

Focus on restoring or maintaining the balance of your vaginal microbiome by consuming probiotics through fermented foods and drinks like yoghurt, kefir or probiotic supplements.

Irregular or missed periods

While getting your period can be a pain or inconvenience, it can tell you things about your health.

Irregular or missed period is a common first sign that something isn’t 100 per cent right. Research has found that the body’s reactions to stress are associated with enhanced secretion of several hormones that increase energy and help you adapt to new circumstances. However, this often means that parts of your menstrual cycle, like ovulation, are disrupted.

Irregular periods aren’t so sinister but can be an inconvenience. Although, one study found that those who are more stressed are up to four times more likely to experience moderate to severe PMS symptoms like water retention or bloating, stomach cramps and severe mood swings.

Unsurprisingly, cycle changes can also cause fertility issues, often through a chain reaction – as irregular periods distress our ovulation schedules, and, combined with reduced libido, getting pregnant can be more difficult.

One study also found that women with higher levels of an enzyme called alpha-amylase were less likely to get pregnant than women with lower levels. Researchers believe that the body releases this enzyme as a part of its stress response.

How to tackle it:

It can be hard to keep track of irregular periods, so consider using a period tracker to help you identify any unique patterns and recall details if you’d like to raise any concerns with your GP.

Lifestyle changes like exercising regularly and maintaining a healthy diet are great ways to help reduce stress levels and regulate hormone levels.

A tight pelvic floor

Stress can make us physically seize up. We all know that jaw clenching feeling, right? If excessively worked up, tension can reach your pelvic floor and cause serious complications.

A hypertonic pelvic floor (when the pelvic floor muscles can’t relax) is often associated with stress. When your pelvic muscles are overworked, you will feel tenderness and deep aches in your pelvis as they tighten.

Certain activities and movements may aggravate this pain by putting pressure on trigger points. Constipation, pain during sex and lower back pain are some of the first warning signs that your pelvic floor is tight.

If your pelvic floor muscles are overloaded frequently, they can experience long-term fatigue from being contracted for long periods. Too much pressure can also lead to weakened muscles that subsequently will be unable to react quickly and result in the development of pelvic floor disorders, such as incontinence and even pelvic organ prolapses.

According to a study, women experiencing symptoms of anxiety or depression are more likely to experience urinary incontinence. Incontinence may also cause more feelings of stress and anxiety, which only exacerbate the problem.

How to tackle it:

Try to spot the signs early where you can to avoid long term damage to your pelvic floor.

Both weak and tense pelvic floor may show similar symptoms but can require different treatments, so it’s important to discuss your concerns with your GP to find the best solution.

Low impact exercises like swimming and Pilates are a great way to strengthen the core and pelvis without causing more damage.

And investing in a pelvic toner can be helpful in teaching you how to exercise and relax your pelvic floor muscles.

It’s National Soulmate Day! So, Here’s 30 People On How They Knew They’d Found *The One*

From knowing you can lean on them through thick and thin to feeling instantly comfortable in their presence, keep reading for 30 ‘awww’ worthy responses from those who know they’ve found their one.

A soulmate. Your other half. The yin to your yang. Finding a loving, supportive and caring partner that you adore is akin to Disney IRL, and for those lucky enough to have scored their Prince or Princess Charming, life likely feels all the better for it.

Whilst some may see life as more fulfilling when living it purely on your own terms, a relationship with the right person can propel you forward, offer a constant source of support and compassion and bring out your best qualities, even when you can’t see them in yourself.

But how do you know if you’ve found your other half for life? If your partner is ‘it’? If Tinder can be deleted for good? Some relationships may be great for ‘right now’, but knowing you’ve found ‘The One’ can be a life-changing realisation. Well as it turns out, the saying “when you know you know” is pretty apt on this occasion, as according to 30 lovebirds sure they’ve found their soulmate, you simply won’t find yourself questioning if they’re the one for you.

From knowing you can lean on them through thick and thin to feeling instantly comfortable in their presence, keep reading for 30 ‘awww’ worthy responses from those who know they’ve found their one. Happy National Soulmate Day, lovers!

  • I feel calm when around him.
  • I didn’t question anything. No doubts, I just knew immediately that it felt right.
  • Because he’s my friend first.
  • I knew pretty quickly after a few dates- I’d been picturing this man for years, manifesting him so I knew exactly who he was when I met him and I’m SO happy I waited and didn’t settle for the first guy who came along. I think your heart tells you when someone is right for you. When you can’t picture doing life without them, they’re probably the one.
  • He feels like home. Wherever he is I feel safe, valued and protected.
  • Our energies match and being around him feels easy.
  • I knew he was the one when it started to make sense as to why my previous relationships never worked out.
  • In all of my previous relationships, I always had a feeling of forcing it to be something it wasn’t – because I was desperate to find ‘the one’. When I met and got to know my boyfriend, it felt right and I’ve never questioned our relationship or my love for him! That’s when and how I knew that he was my person!
  • We are basically the same person.
  • Friendship and love. I am inspired to be better every day.
  • There wasn’t a moment but realising you can love someone more every day even after 8 years sums it up.
  • I know he’s the one because he feels like home. He’s the calm to my chaos. The dolce to my vita. He’s unflappable when I’m… the mad unhinged artist with bull-in-a-china-shop energy (most of the time).
  • He’s the exact male version of me!
  • You just know, cliche, but you really just know they’re the one, you won’t even have to ask.
  • We clicked immediately and on every level, it’s an intense love even though we’re both laid back.
  • When we first moved in together we quickly realised that we do not go to bed/sleep at the same time! But everytime I go up to bed he makes me a cup of tea and a hot water bottle then brings it up to me with the dog. I think it’s just something I sometimes take for granted, but it’s so kind and thoughtful and shows me exactly what kind of person he is.
  • We spent 8 hours chatting in the car on our first date- everything felt so natural and comfortable.
  • Sharing everything feels like the most natural thing in the world.
  • I feel like her first priority and she is mine.
  • We’re a perfect addition to each other’s lives. My single friend said the other day that being single is great, you can do whatever you want, whenever you want, and I said I can do that now! We respect each other’s wants and needs and never said to each other ‘no you can’t do that’.
  • I never had to question their feelings- there was no doubt in my mind that we were equals and loved and prioritised each other the same amount.
  •  I know that sometimes I am not the most patient, calm or optimistic about life, but he shows me I can be.
  • I find it incredible that he still looks at me and smiles the same way he did when we were teens, because we are almost 30 now and woah….
  • He’s my number one cheerleader and supporter- no one has my back like him!
  • Gut feeling- trust it! My body and intuition knew before I did.
  • When love just suddenly felt so simple and easy. The films always portrays love as a massive hurdle to get through and hard work (don’t get me wrong no relationship is perfect) but being with ‘the one’ never feels like a struggle.
  • Your shortcomings or mistakes aren’t going to give them the ick- you know you’ve found your person when you can be 100% vulnerable and it only helps you get closer.
  • When even years down the line there still aren’t enough hours in the day to hang out- I never get bored of spending time together.
  • I knew my partner was the one because he made me feel safe and wanted from our first date. Three years later and that hasn’t changed, I’ve never felt more safe and wanted by someone.
  • Despite the distance and us both being from completely different cultures, we instantly clicked and I found a best friend from thousands of miles away. I knew if we could feel so connected when our lives were so different that it was meant to be.

In Conversation with SheSpot: The Sexual Wellness Brand Putting Female Pleasure First. Amen!

Fresh off the back of the launch of the hotly anticipated SheSpot X Zoella collaboration, we caught up with Holly and Kalila to find out all about the best subscription box on the internet. We're speaking facts.

Frustrated by the lack of accessible, safe and female-focused settings in which to explore their sexuality, Co-Founders Holly Jackson and Kalila Bolton created SheSpot in 2021 to try and breakdown some of the residual taboos that still exist around female pleasure and sexual wellness.

SheSpot has since become the go-to space for women’s sexual wellness products, spanning sex toys, lube and arousal oils, all the way through to intimate care and mood setting. Every season, they curate boxes of premium, full-sized products designed for self-love, complemented by top tips and advice on how to use them. SheSpot is for every woman and vulva-having person, whether you’re single, in a relationship, or anywhere in between.

Fresh off the back of the launch of the hotly anticipated SheSpot X Zoella collaboration, we caught up with Holly and Kalila to find out all about the best subscription box on the internet. We’re speaking facts.

From their top tips for introducing sex toys into your relationship to the benefits of prioritising your pleasure in a world hellbent on leaving women and people with vulvas out of the conversation altogether, and what’s next for SheSpot!

What inspired you to start SheSpot?

As best friends since our university days, we have always talked openly about sex and pleasure and we feel lucky to have had one another to share experiences with over the years.

Progressing through our twenties, we felt increasingly underserved by the more mainstream brands and retailers in the sexual wellness space. Not only was the shopping experience underwhelming, functional and often intimidating(!) but historically we were also disappointed by the brands on offer. Too often products were made using low-quality ingredients and designed with an obviously male gaze, with little regard for the needs and desires of women.

In recent years things have changed and we have started to see an incredible range of new female-founded brands in the sexual wellness space, on a mission to create high quality, beautifully designed products, by women, for women.

Holly and Kalila Founders of SheSpot

This was so exciting to us and we knew straight away we wanted to play a part in empowering women to navigate the rapidly evolving space. SheSpot was born to offer women a safe and empowering way to discover what’s out there and in turn, develop their confidence to explore their sexuality.

Why do you think so many of us – however we identify – struggle or hold back when it comes to exploring our own pleasure and what makes us tick?

Unfortunately, there are still taboos and myths around women’s pleasure that hold us back from embracing our sexuality and exploring our pleasure. These are largely fed by societal pressures which compound the idea that men are more sexual than women, or that women should derive pleasure only from a partner.

Discussions around pleasure were completely absent –  instead, the focus was purely focused on sex with men, STIs, and avoiding pregnancy.SheSpot

Thinking back to our own sex ed classes at school – discussions around pleasure were completely absent –  instead, the focus was purely focused on sex with men, STIs, and avoiding pregnancy. This type of approach denies women the space to explore their sexuality and preferences outside of traditional partnered sex – and can make prioritising pleasure challenging and intimidating. This is why we feel so passionately about normalising the subject of women’s pleasure and creating a space where it’s accessible and safe to do so.

What are your top tips for introducing toys and other wellness products into solo or partnered play?

If you’re on the fence about trying toys and other sexual wellness products, we strongly encourage you to take the plunge!

We understand that deciding which product to buy can be overwhelming and sometimes intimidating, so our top tip is to start simple and build your way up to the more adventurous items.

A few other really important tips for introducing pleasure and wellness products:

  1. Set the mood: If you’re going solo, be sure to make time for yourself and set the mood, as being relaxed in your environment is key to switching off your mind and allowing your body to feel pleasure. Ensure you have privacy and won’t be disturbed, light your favourite candle or play some music to create an inviting ambience. You may want to check out a sensual story or some audio erotica too – Ferly is our go-to for these!
  1. Don’t be afraid to experiment! We’d recommend trying out a few vibrators to explore external (clitoral) stimulation as well as internal stimulation too. Toys all come with different settings and speeds so it’s great fun to try a few out!

Introducing toys to partnered play is an amazing way of adding an element of fun, discovery, and extra pleasure to sex. Toys best suited to partnered play are bullets and pebble-style vibrators, whilst clitoral sucking and internal toys toys are better for solo play.

Check out our guide to choosing your next vibrator!

  1. Use more lube! Whether you’re using sex toys solo or having sex with a partner, we always recommend investing in a high-quality lube for maximum pleasure. Be sure to use water-based options with toys and condoms – you can read more about this on our blog

If you’re hesitant to shop for toys or other pleasure products, or you don’t know where to start, then SheSpot boxes are a great way to try a broad range of well researched, body-safe brands, all tried and tested by the SheSpot team (it’s a hard job but someone’s got to do it!).

What does sexual wellness mean to you?

‘Sexual wellness’ is a relatively new concept and it’s often misunderstood. Crucially it’s not just about sex! We think of sexual wellness as an active process of prioritising self-love, both physically and emotionally.

Experience sharing is so important too as that’s the key to normalising conversations around women’s pleasure.SheSpot

It encompasses anything from self-pleasure (and that’s a biggie!), sex and intimate care, all the way through to meditation and mood setting. Experience sharing is so important too as that’s the key to normalising conversations around women’s pleasure, so in defining sexual wellness we talk about discussing this with friends and partners. Vibrator recommendations have become a favourite topic of conversation at our dinner parties and it’s amazing to have open chats with friends about this!

What are the benefits of looking after your sexual wellness and taking ownership of your own pleasure?

The benefits of investing in your sexual wellness and pleasure are quite literally endless!

Exploring self-pleasure can bring a whole host of incredible health and wellbeing benefits – from lowering stress levels to aiding restful sleep and improving body confidence (as well as being a lot of fun along the way!). Some research even indicates that vaginal stimulation can raise pain thresholds and ease pain like cramps and headaches!

Importantly, prioritising your own pleasure and needs can also help you to achieve a richer appreciation of your standards, boundaries and expectations when it comes to partner sex – creating a safer and more empowering experience.

What was the best thing about working with another brand on a collaborative box?

We absolutely loved collaborating with Zoella on the SheSpot X Zoella box! A really special part of the process was getting to meet the team in person in Brighton (armed with a suitcase full of cheeky items to show everyone!). After a year of starting our business in lockdown, it was such a treat to break free of virtual meetings and dodgy wifi!

Our favourite element of all was having open and real conversations about all things sexual wellness with a team of like-minded women that share our passion for breaking down the taboos surrounding women’s pleasure!

How do you curate the products that go in each of your boxes?

The goal of each SheSpot box is to create a complete self-love experience  – from getting you in the mood,  to getting you off 😉 That’s why we always look for a broad range of products for each box, from candles and aromatherapy to vibrators and arousal oils! We also think this makes the box feel more accessible to those who are new to the space as they’ll at least be familiar with the mood-setting side of things to get them started.

We absolutely love working with fellow female business owners on a mission to break down the same taboos we’ve encountered SheSpot

Sourcing premium, innovative products designed with women in mind is also key throughout the box curation process. It will come as no surprise that the majority of products matching these criteria are from female-founded brands! We absolutely love working with fellow female business owners on a mission to break down the same taboos we’ve encountered – hence why so many of them feature in our SheSpot boxes!

What is your ultimate self-care ritual?

The ultimate self-care ritual is definitely having a long bath with some pH-friendly bath products, bringing a favourite waterproof toy along too, and then pampering with luxury aromatherapy body products to completely relax and get ready for the best sleep ever.

Your favourite product from a SheSpot box so far…

Difficult question! This depends on how we are feeling as we’ve got something for every mood. We’re currently obsessed with Biird’s Evii vibrator as it’s so beautifully designed and is a really high-quality toy. We also love aromatherapy products for the ultimate relaxation and for getting in the mood. Ilapothecary’s Feminine Happy Oil is an absolute favourite at the moment.

What’s the best thing about working in the sexual wellness industry?

The people we get to work with! The vast majority of the brands we work with are female-founded and all exist to create the very best products for women. We’ve met an incredible range of founders who share our passion for women’s sexual wellness and it’s been inspiring to hear their stories, successes (and struggles!). We’re loving being part of this amazing, empowering community of women.

What changes or developments would you like to see happen in the sexual wellness space in the near future?

There are two big things for us here. Firstly, we would like to see a lifting of the ban and censoring that currently exists on discussing and advertising women’s sexual wellness and pleasure on social media. It’s sexist, suppresses women’s pleasure and reinforces taboos which have no place in the twenty-first century.

we would like to see a lifting of the ban and censoring that currently exists on discussing and advertising women’s sexual wellness and pleasure on social mediaSheSpot

As female business founders, the second change we’d love to see is an increase in the levels of investment that go towards female-founded businesses and those that are in the sexual wellness space. There’s a huge gender gap when it comes to venture capital investment – at last count, out of every £1 of venture capital investment, all-female founder teams in the UK get less than 1p (according to a British Business Bank report). This is even more pronounced in the sexual wellness space where many investors shy away from businesses centred around women’s health and pleasure –  limiting the ability for new brands to grow and scale.

What’s next for SheSpot?!

We have been going for a year now and we’ve got so much we want to do with SheSpot in the near future! Our seasonal boxes are just the start… watch this space!

10 of Netflix’s Wildest Documentaries that Will Leave you Saying WTF

Let us introduce 10 of the quite frankly *wildest* documentaries currently available on Netflix that are sure to keep your brain ticking over their smallest details weeks down the line.

Netflix has a lot to answer to when it comes to our procrastination habits, but would we have it any other way? Unlikely. If your Jubilee Bank Holiday calendar is in need of some serious R&R thrown into the mix (along with the obligatory bunting hanging and afternoon tea consumption), consider your ‘to-watch’ list covered- albeit with some slightly terrifying recommendations.

From the weird to the wonderful and everything in between, the documentary and docuseries industry has boomed in recent years, with research from Parrot Analytics revealing true crime was not only the biggest documentary subgenre, but was also growing faster than nearly any of the others between the period of January 2018 and March 2021. Interest piqued? Let us introduce 10 of the quite frankly *wildest* documentaries currently available on Netflix that are sure to keep your brain ticking over their smallest details weeks down the line. Spoiler: most are not advisable to watch before bed…

Our Father

Netflix’s latest disturbing doc Our Father has been trending Internet-wide since its release in May of this year, and viewers are still reeling from the surely-too-f*cked-up-to-be-real tale. The 90-minute episode follows the case of former fertility doctor, Donald Cline, who for years had been repeatedly swapping out donor sperm with his own to inseminate women in secret, as a result fathering dozens of children. The documentary closely follows Jacoba Ballard, revealed as one of Cline’s children, and the unsettling truth that was exposed after she completed a simple DNA test to learn about her paternal lineage. Suspicions were raised after Jacoba’s test revealed she had seven relatives in nearby parts of Indiana, immediately signalling alarm bells and exposing Cline’s deceit, which is still unravelling to this day.

Eye-opening and chilling, the terrifying truth of Dr Cline’s malpractice is one that will keep you gripped even when it becomes difficult to watch.

Don’t F**k with Cats: Hunting an Internet Killer

Two weeks after its debut, Don’t F*ck with Cats became one of Netflix’s Top 5 most-watched documentaries of 2019, and over 3 years on the story remains just as shocking as when it first aired. The three-part docuseries follows an online amateur investigation, sparked after a series of videos surfaced online of an anonymous individual abusing and killing cats, eventually leading to more serious and shocking crimes to be uncovered as a result. From the type of plug sockets in the background of videos, to photos of petrol stations posted in later online statuses, the amateur Facebook detectives dedicated to finding the mystery killer stopped at nothing to reveal the identity of the individual behind the sickening videos.

No spoilers here, but the tale gets wilder the more you watch, and remains one of the most unbelievable true crime stories on Netflix.

Tinder Swindler

Ever been on a bad date? Times that by around 1,000,000 and you might just arrive at Simon Leviev. Another gem from 2022, the two-hour documentary tells the story of Shimon Hayut- the real name of ‘Mr Leviev’- who posed as a wealthy, jet-setting diamond mogul, allegedly using the dating app Tinder to fund his life of luxury by defrauding women across Europe. Hayut would match with women on the app, take them on an impressive and mesmerising first date, charm, finesse and scheme his way into building what would appear to be an authentic and loving relationship, all whilst flying around the world to secretly date and scam other unsuspecting women looking for love.

The documentary chronicles the journey of multiple victims who lost millions of dollars in total after Leviev would pretend to be targeted by ‘his enemies’, telling his partners he was in harm’s way and needed money to escape- unbelievable, but it worked. The documentary clocked 45.8 million hours of views globally between the 31st of January and the 6th of February this year and hit the top 10 on Netflix in 92 countries.

Fyre: The Greatest Party That Never Happened

If Kendall Jenner, Bella Hadid and Hailey Bieber tell you something is worth your time, chances are we normally believe it. Unfortunately, in the case of Fyre Festival, celebrity endorsements galore weren’t enough to save what turned into possibly the biggest festival flop of all time. Yikes.

With promised luxury accommodation, “the best in food, art, music and adventure” in the Bahamas, musical guests including Tyga, Desiigner, Blink-182, Major Lazer, Disclosure to name a few, the reality of the festival was in fact an unfinished building site with no access to food or water, no stage, and definitely no music. To blame? Think a severe lack of planning, the total underestimation of throwing a luxurious event on a remote island and CEO turned fraudster, Billy McFarland, and boom, you have the perfect recipe for disaster.

The one part documentary earned nominations for Outstanding Documentary or Nonfiction Special and Outstanding Directing for a Documentary/Nonfiction Program amongst other accolades, and combines the festival’s promotional materials, footage from guests and behind the scenes of the ‘planning’ process which ultimately caused the event to fall apart. The shocking but mesmerising look at how the event went from bad to worse, and worse again, feels somewhat like a dramatic thriller IRL. Phew.

Making a Murderer

Exonerated after spending nearly two decades in prison for a crime he did not commit, Making a Murderer follows Steven Avery- a Manitowoc County resident- who after being released from prison, unbelievably finds himself behind bars again, this time accused of the murder of 25 year old photographer Teresa Halbach who disappeared after she photographed a vehicle at Avery’s salvage yard. The series also explores the connected story of Brendan Dassey- Avery’s nephew- who was also accused as an accessory in the murder.

Columbia graduate students Laura Ricciardi and Moira Demos read about Avery’s case and decided to pitch his story as a documentary, which after being turned down by PBS and HBO was eventually picked up by Netflix. The 10 part series released in 2015 was filmed over the course of 10 years and was later followed by a second series in 2018 exploring the aftermath of the trials and convictions.

The show gained so much attention on social media that a petition was created asking the White House to pardon Avery and garnered more than 500,000 signatures. The White House’s statement noted “the President cannot pardon a state criminal offence.” For true crime lovers out there, the 20 episodes in total are not to be missed!

Abducted in Plain Sight

Look up the dictionary definition of ‘wild AF’ and you might just find Abducted in Plain Sight. Possibly the most unbelievable story of all, the documentary follows the kidnappings of Jan Broberg Felt, an Idaho teenager who was abducted by her neighbour Robert Berchtold in the 1970s on not one but two occasions. Told you it was unbelievable.

Over the years, Robert Berchtold- whom the Broberg family considered a trusted neighbour and close friend- spent his time creating a bond with the family so strong that it would allow him to spend time with Jan in plain sight,  eventually kidnapping her to Mexico before marrying her, at age 12.

With more sordid details of this twisted tale (we haven’t even mentioned the aliens part), it might not be one to watch before bed, but will certainly have you talking about it to anyone who will listen for weeks to come…

Unsolved Mysteries

First airing in 1987 and with its later rebooted series showing on Netflix in 2020, Unsolved Mysteries uses reenactments, interviews and the little evidence available to authorities to retell the circumstances of murders, disappearances and paranormal activity that to this day has remain unsolved. The 12-part reboot released in 2020 was “refreshed” by Stranger Things executive producer Shawn Levy and his company 21 Laps Entertainment, which is only another reason to click play once gobbling up Season 4 of ST!

From a mother who went missing from her hair salon within a 13 minute time window to a former White House aide found dead in a landfill site with no obvious motive for a killer, the series will by nature leave you asking endless questions, and tirelessly hoping for closure for the victims of each case.

House of Secrets: The Burari Deaths

Suicide, murder… or something else? This 2021 docuseries examines the chilling truths and theories around the deaths of 11 members of one Delhi family on 30th June 2018. The three-part series is said to be “an uncomfortable watch” with “brilliant storytelling”, and explores what led the 11 family members to be found dead in their home, blindfolded, gagged, and with their hands tied behind their backs. The production covered a total of 400 hours of interviews, and the “emotionally draining” research process was said to have taken its toll on the crew, as the truth behind this disturbing and impossibly sad case came to light.

The Great Hack

Data gone wrong, this 2019 documentary film follows the Facebook–Cambridge Analytica data scandal and the way in which personal data belonging to millions of Facebook users was collected without their consent, predominantly to be used for political advertising. Big yikes.

The documentary explores how data from up to 87 million Facebook profiles was accessed, and the ways in which Cambridge Analytica used this information to provide analytical assistance to the 2016 presidential campaigns of Ted Cruz and Donald Trump. Offering an alarming glimpse into the way social media shapes every part of our lives, The Great Hack is a terrifying insight into how deep online surveillance can go. The documentary was nominated for both an Emmy for Outstanding Documentary Or Nonfiction Special and for Best Documentary by the British Academy of Film and Television and Arts.

Worst Roommate Ever

Your home should be your safe space, but unfortunately for some, that couldn’t be further from the truth. This five-part documentary series covers four cases, and from murder to stolen belongings, squatting to unrequited love turned violent, it’s a terrifying look at how unsuspecting and innocent renters can get wrapped up in scenarios that end in the worst possible outcome.  From a prominent member of the Sacramento community in the 80s whose shelter for those seeking housing was more reminiscent of a slaughterhouse, to a serial squatter who used false identities to turn the lives of his victims upside down (in some cases even kicking owners out of their own homes),  it’s probably one to avoid if you’re currently browsing SpareRoom for a new housemate …

Which is at the top of your to-watch list?

BRB Sobbing! Reviewing The No-Show by Beth O’Leary

Want to know if The No-Show is worth reading? Keep scrolling for the team’s reviews…

Meticulously plotted, fresh and surprising but thrumming with that signature Beth O’Leary warmth we all adore, The No-Show is a dream of a novel from start to finish, even if it is a total enigma until the very end.

As joyful as it is heart-breaking, Beth’s fourth novel tackles some hard-hitting themes, and it’s all the richer for it. In its opening scenes, Joseph Carter – the titular ‘no-show’ – leaves three women jilted on Valentine’s Day but there’s more to this story than meets the eye, with events unfolding out of sequence and a stunning plot twist that’s guaranteed to leave you guessing until the very end. If you like your romantic comedy with a side of mystery, The No-Show is your love language.

We say it every time but *this* is Beth at the top of her game. We said what we said (but will no doubt go back on our word as soon as she writes her next novel). Word of warning: Prepare to be put through your emotional paces. You will need 3-5 working days to recover.

The blurb

Content warnings: self-harm, alcoholism, obsession, stalking, sexual harassment, miscarriage, dementia.

Three women. Three dates. One missing man…

8.52 a.m. Siobhan’s been looking forward to her breakfast date with Joseph. She was surprised when he suggested it – she normally sees him late at night in her hotel room. Breakfast with Joseph on Valentine’s Day surely means something… so where is he?

2.43 p.m. Miranda’s hoping that a Valentine’s Day lunch with Carter will be the perfect way to celebrate her new job. It’s a fresh start and a sign that her grown-up life is finally falling into place: she’s been dating Carter for five months now and things are getting serious. But why hasn’t he shown up?

6.30 p.m. Joseph Carter agreed to be Jane’s fake boyfriend at a colleague’s engagement party. They’ve not known each other long but their friendship is fast becoming the brightest part of her new life in Winchester. Joseph promised to save Jane tonight. But he’s not here…

Meet Joseph Carter. That is if you can find him.

Lareese Says…

Beth O’Leary does it again! I’m a HUGE O’Leary fan but I have to admit, I wasn’t convinced she’d be able to trump her last novel, The Road Trip. Lo and behold I was wrong – This. This is O’Leary at her best!

I foolishly read The No Show over the course of a couple of weeks, dipping in and out which was my downfall. For that reason, I felt like it was a bit of a slow burner to begin with, but I put that down to my erratic reading schedule more than the story itself. Initially, I was a bit disenchanted by the long build-up and multiple POVs but I’m not afraid to admit I did a complete 180 on this book and its titular ‘no show’, Joseph Carter. We get to know this womanising cad through three leading ladies Siobhan, Miranda and Jane, all of whom have been stood up on Valentine’s Day. Men, eh. Who’d have ‘em?

I won’t elaborate too much on the plot because I would hate to spoil it for anyone but let’s just say there’s more to this story than meets the eye, so sit tight and stick with it. Things really take off and fall into place around the 200-page mark.

The No Show is O’Leary’s savviest book to date (and dare I say her best)Lareese

The No Show is O’Leary’s savviest book to date (and dare I say her best), and although it’s not quite as ‘cosy’ as The Switch, it’s equally as heartwarming and joyful. Kudos to O’Leary for her meticulous plotting too. This is the most satisfying conclusion I’ve read in a long time and a wonderfully original take on the romance novel. My advice? Go into it blindly, and avoid spoilers because when you get to the plot twist you will launch your book across the room. Ladies and Gentlemen, Her!

Rating: 4.5/5
Would you recommend it? It’s a need not a must.

Charlotte says…

BRB SOBBING FOREVER. I devoured The No-Show in record time, powering through its pages despite wanting to save the deliciousness that is a new Beth O’Leary novel for as long as possible. In some ways, it felt a little different to the other books I’ve read from Beth and I can’t put my finger on why, perhaps because of the three-character perspective format and at times not feeling overly drawn to all its protagonists, but regardless it still stands as my favourite book of the year so far!

The best way to go into reading The No-Show is without expectation- although it’s tempting to rush through its chapters and see how each character’s story falls into place, to me its charm was the slow unfolding of each relationship which left me curious and gripped by every small detail. I was totally enthralled by each women’s experiences and relationships with Joseph, and somehow never felt any bad blood towards him despite his mysteriousness and at times emotional unavailability. His big smiles and charming nature melted my heart, similarly to Siobhan, Miranda and Jane (of whom his interactions were my favourite) and despite its sadness, The No-Show made me feel like I was enveloped in the warmest of hugs from start to finish. It certainly wasn’t as steamy as The Road Trip, but the planning and time that must have gone into intertwining the lives of so many ‘real’ feeling characters whilst never once being confusing is a skill I think only Beth possesses!

I read the final few chapters in public and let me just say, this was not a wise choice. Charlotte

I read the final few chapters in public and let me just say, this was not a wise choice unless crying alone with a passionfruit margarita in hand is something you also aspire towards. Consider yourself warned. Once again I’ll be counting down the days to Beth’s next book already, and wondering what I can read to fill the void in the meantime. Recommendations on a postcard, please!

Rating: 5/5- if I could score higher I would!
Would you recommend it? DUH.

Darcey says…

I absolutely ADORED this book. I read The No-Show on my most recent Holiday and spent the entire 5-hour plane journey home finishing this book and let me tell you turbulence was knocking me left, right and centre and not even that could stop me from turning those pages!

I loved every female character in this book, but I must admit my heart really did fall for Jane!Darcey

Throughout the book you get to know the three leading ladies Siobhan, Miranda and Jane, I really enjoy a book from the different characters’ perspectives, I find it incredibly interesting as it really speeds up the pace of the book for me. I loved every female character in this book, but I must admit my heart really did fall for Jane, the sweetest character with a lot of self-doubt and worry, I was really rooting for Janey and so the ending (if you’ve read the book) made my heart swell!

Throughout the book you also get to know Joseph Carter, I think I felt every emotion under the sun towards this man ha! I must admit my opinion on him greatly changes about halfway through the book, without giving too much away, the character development of Joseph is actually really quite moving.

I can’t even imagine how long it took Beth to write this book, the skill behind unravelling so many stories at one time and getting that onto paper is remarkable to me, she is so unbelievably talented and her work is such a pleasure to read. This book is 100% worth reading this Summer, if you like romance, drama and a large plot twist that makes you audibly gasp, you’ll love this!

Rating: 5/5 baby!
Would you recommend it?: Absolutely!

Bunting and Ju-Bellinis at the ready, here’s 20 things to do in the month of June.

After seventy years on the throne, the Queen is celebrating her platinum jubilee and who are we to skip a party? Pass the scones, dallyn. If you manage to make it through June without a two-day hangover, it’s *you* who deserves a crown. Bunting and Ju-Bellinis at the ready, here’s 20 things to do in the month of June.

1 Manifest a life when you can be severely retired.

2 Add approximately 87 events to your calendar for the four-day weekend *back on my bullshit*

3 Celebrate Her Majesty The Queen and get into the platinum jubbly spirit. Throw a Corgi party, wear blue for the occasion, rock up in a gold state coach and cut a cake with a ceremonial sword. Here’s to our Lizzy!

4 Reunite with the unhinged tequila girl (that’s you). We ride at dawn.

5 *Announce that you fancy a ciggy* Objection your honour, hearsay.

6 Return to work after the big Bank Holiday – an unprecedented milestone. Bare minimum? Don’t mind if I do.

7 Turn up late due to foreseen circumstances well within your control. Iced coffee, a thread.

8 Try to book a coastal air bnb for summer…

9 Weep when they’re all booked out till 2027. How are we meant to be coastal grandmas in these conditions? The audacity.

10 Don’t make unnecessary journeys. Don’t take risks on treacherous hangovers.

11 Tell all your friends the only thing you want from them before you die is a Miriam Margolyes cameo.

12 Place an order for the SheSpot X Zoella box. Truly the gift that keeps on giving. It’s hot satisfying summer, guys!

13 Run, don’t walk to M&S to get your picky bits when it reaches 15 degrees.

15 Buy your dad the same thing you get him every year: a pouch of Revels, socks and a bottle of 19 Crimes. The Father’s Day starter pack.

16 Get your first sunburn of the season. It’s a British Summertime tradition.

17 Plan a girls holiday that actually makes it past the group chat. Twelve years in the making but once you’re on that balcony with your lemon Fanta and your packet of Lay’s, it’ll be perfect, perfect, perfect.

18 Until it’s been 4 days since your last bowel movement. Holiday constipation hits different.

19 Find yourself in one of those dangerous moods where you’re either going to sign up to a silent retreat, cut your hair off or buy a house rabbit.

20 Allow yourself to enjoy nice things. That’s it, that’s the tweet.

Enter: Luna Daily, the gentle pH balanced shower wash you can use everywhere. It’s been expertly developed by gynaecologists and dermatologists, and designed to nourish and protect the whole body, including sensitive intimate skin meaning less fannying around with different products. 6. Mallows Beauty – Pineapple Enzyme Peel Face Mask (worth £3.95)
